á Confession and Forgiveness
P Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God, who forgives all our sin,
whose mercy endures forever.
C Amen.
P Let us come into the light of Christ, confessing our need for God’s mercy.
Silence is kept for reflection.
P Holy and faithful God,
C we so often choose our own way instead of yours.
We think we can evade your commandments.
We have spoken in ways that kill,
strayed with our hearts,
betrayed friends, and hated enemies.
We have broken our promises.
Search us deeply and create us anew.
Lift the heavy burden of our sin
and free us to follow your way of life. Amen
P “Call upon me,” says the Lord, “and I will answer.”
Our God has come among us to loose every bond
and set us free from all that weighs us down.
Receive the forgiveness of all your sins
in the name of ☩ Jesus Christ,
our crucified and risen Savior.
C Amen.
Hymn Jesus Shall Reign (ELW #434)
Watts
Jesus shall reign where’er the sun
does its successive journeys run;
his kingdom stretch from shore to shore,
till moons shall wax and wane no more.
People and realms of ev’ry tongue
dwell on his love with sweetest song;
and infant voices shall proclaim
their early blessings on his name.
Blessings abound where’er he reigns:
the pris’ners leap to lose their chains,
the weary find eternal rest,
and all who suffer want are blest.
Let ev’ry creature rise and bring
peculiar honors to our king;
angels descend with songs again,
and earth repeat the loud amen.

C God of revelation, You made your son known at a wedding, a public celebration of love. Celebrate love with us by revealing Jesus in our midst. Amen.
Responsive Reading Psalm 104
10You make springs gush forth in the valleys; they flow between the hills, 11giving drink to every wild animal; the wild animals quench their thirst.
12By the streams the birds of the air have their habitation;
they sing among the branches.
13From your lofty abode you water the mountains;
the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work.
14You cause the grass to grow for the cattle,
and plants for people to use,
to bring forth food from the earth,
15and wine to gladden the human heart,
oil to make the face shine,
and bread to strengthen the human heart.
Gospel John 2:1-11
L The Holy Gospel from John in the 2nd Chapter
C Glory to you, O Lord
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” 4And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.” 5His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6Now standing there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7Jesus said to them, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8He said to them, “Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward.” So they took it. 9When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom 10and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now.” 11Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

WE RESPOND TO THE WORD OF GOD
Creed: Martin Luther on the God the Creator
Martin Luther, the reformer of the Church and founder of the Lutheran witness to Jesus, crafted explanations of the basics of faith, called the Catechism. For decades, Lutherans were known for memorizing these Lutheran confessions of faith. For our confession of faith today, we are using Martin Luther’s explanation of the Holy Spirit.
P Do you believe in God the Father?
C Yes, I believe in God the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
P What does that mean?
C I believe that God has created me and all that exists; that he has given me and still sustains my body and soul, all my limbs and senses, my reason and all the faculties of my mind, together with food and clothing, house and home, family and property; that he provides me daily and abundantly with all the necessities of life, protects me from all danger, and preserves me from all evil. All this he does out of his pure, fatherly, and divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness on my part. For all of this I am bound to thank, praise, serve, and obey him. This is most certainly true.
Offering Prayer
P Merciful God,
C we offer with joy and thanksgiving what you have first given us—our selves, our time, and our possessions, signs of your gracious love. Receive them for the sake of him who offered himself for us, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Prayers of Bethlehem
During the prayers, there will be an opportunity for you to lift up a thanksgiving, a prayer concern, the name of someone on your mind today. All are encouraged to join in this time of public prayer.
L … God of grace …
C … Hear our prayer.

Words of Institution
á Lord’s Prayer
C Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.
L These are the gifts of God for the people of God
C Thanks be to God
